GILROY — A man was arrested earlier this month on suspicion of intentionally setting three fires in the Gilroy area, authorities said.

On June 9, witnesses reported seeing a man start a small brush fire in a field behind the Wal-Mart on Camino Arroyo, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.
The man left the scene before deputies arrived. Firefighters, meanwhile, quickly contained the blaze to a 10-by-10-foot area.

Deputies obtained photos of the man and created a flier to generate leads, the sheriff’s office said. Within hours, he was spotted on Santa Clara Valley Water District property at Camino Arroyo and Gilman Road.
The man was linked to three fires and arrested on suspicion of arson, according to the sheriff’s office.
