Yosemite National Park officials refused to give any details Tuesday about an incident involving a 23-year-old man near a waterfall inside the park last weekend.

Authorities did not answer specific questions about whether the person had been injured, and did not address social-media rumors about the person’s condition.
The claims began on social media Saturday, with posts claiming that a person fell from the top of Nevada Fall after going into the water and another person was rescued.
In an emailed statement, a National Park Service spokesperson said Tuesday that the agency “is investigating an incident involving a 23-year-old male at Nevada Fall in Yosemite National Park on (Saturday). Emergency personnel responded to the incident, which remains under investigation. No additonal information is available at this time.”

Pressed further about whether the incident had resulted in injuries or deaths, the spokesperson did not respond.
Several users on social media posted reports that one person went over the fall, and a female grabbed a branch and was rescued. They also said a helicopter later arrived.
Nevada Fall is a waterfall accessible via the Mist Trail and the John Muir Trail at the top of Vernal Fall, according to the NPS. It is illegal to swim in the waters near them because of their hazardous conditions. The waterfall is 594 feet above the Merced River.
