Chase died Tuesday in a Los Angeles hospital at 35, her father, John Schwallier, confirmed. He said she suffered from complications of bacterial meningitis and a blood infection in addition to severe malnutrition.
She’d also been struggling with addiction and living on the streets near the hospital where she died.
Chase was just 12 years old during the 2003 MTV Awards, where she won Best Villain for her portrayal of Samara Morgan in “The Ring.” After actor Ashton Kutcher and Diddy presented with her with a trophy, the music producer can be seen walking up to Chase, drink in hand, and asking, “You’re going to the afterparty, right?”
Chase nods, prompting Combs to shout, “Yeah!” while Kutcher laughed off the exchange, the clip shows.

Combs, now notorious for his parties, was arrested in September 2024 at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Midtown. At the heart of the allegations against the 55-year-old rapper were his “freak-off” parties — elaborate, drug-fueled, days-long sex romps often involving sex workers.
The disgraced music mogul, who is currently behind bars at New Jersey’s FCI Fort Dix, was ordered to spend 50 months in prison after he was found guilty in July 2025 of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution following a federal sex trafficking trial in New York. He is also the subject of more than 100 civil suits.
