UNION CITY – A 14-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries in a crash Friday morning in Union City, police said.

Around 8:05 a.m., a silver Mazda sedan and a commercial box truck collided at the intersection of Alvarado-Niles and Decoto roads, according to the Union City Police Department.
The teen was found in the front passenger seat of the car, police said, adding that the teen was taken to an area hospital. An update on the teen’s condition was not immediately available.
Both drivers stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, according to police.

While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, police said alcohol and drugs did not appear to play a role.
The intersection and surrounding streets were closed following the collision and did not reopen until noon.
