OAKLAND — A 19-year-old Berkeley man is being held without bail after allegedly showing up to his ex-girlfriend’s grandmother’s house and demanding entry in a threatening way, according to court records.

“Open the door, granny, or I will break the door down and hurt you,” the young man allegedly yelled through a closed door on Hyde Street in Oakland. He later added, “I am not pointing my gun at you, but if you do not let me in, things will get worse,” according to police.
The woman later told police that the 19-year-old pulled a gun and pointed it at the door. She opened the door out of fear, and when he came in, his alleged motive was revealed, according to police. He allegedly went for a closet and came out with a pair of sneakers. As he walked off with the shoes, he had one final remark.

“Who do you think wears size 12 sneakers?” he allegedly said.
The man was arrested one day later in San Francisco, based on the grandmother’s identification and a witness statement. Now he’s facing felony charges of burglary and criminal threats, court records show. The charges were filed on Aug. 10, and his preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 23, court records show.

The charges include enhancements for allegedly targeting a “vulnerable” victim.
