A missing 14-year-old girl from Orland was safely found in Oakland, with an investigation leading to the arrest of a man on suspicion of kidnapping, according to the Orland Police Department.

According to the department, officers responded to a report Sept. 11 at around 8:20 a.m. in the 900 block of Watts Avenue in Orland. After beginning the investigation, police said the circumstances surrounding the disappearance led officers to classify the incident as “suspicious” and contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation Chico field office to request assistance. According to Orland police, officers worked with FBI special agents for “several hours” to develop leads and determine the teen’s whereabouts. Investigative efforts included the review of cell phone information, surveillance footage and interviews.
Through the investigation, officers determined the juvenile had traveled with an adult man to Oakland, according to Orland police. The department coordinated with multiple law enforcement agencies to respond to Oakland to locate the missing teen.
The teen was safely recovered with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Chico and San Francisco field offices, Glenn County Sheriff’s Office, Glenn County District Attorney’s Office, Glenn County Victim and Witness Assistance Center, California Highway Patrol, Oakland Police Department, and Oakland Housing Authority Police.

A 32-year-old man was taken into custody by Orland Police Department and transported back to Glenn County, according to Orland police. The man was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping. The teen was safely returned home.
“This investigation remains ongoing,” the Orland Police Department stated in a news release. “Due to the age of the victim and the sensitive nature of the investigation, no additional information will be released.”
