OAKLAND β An investigation is underway into a pedestrian fatality on Interstate 880 in Oakland, authorities said.

The incident happened just before 8:15 p.m. Friday in northbound lanes of the freeway at 29th Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol Sgt. Andrew Barclay.
βIt is not known at this time why the pedestrian was walking in lanes of traffic,β Barclay said.

The vehicle that collided with the pedestrian remained at the scene, according to Barclay.
Additional details about the incident were not immediately available.
The two right lanes of northbound I-880 were closed until about 9:45 p.m. for an investigation.
