Caltrain will not operate between San Jose Diridon Station and the Tamien Station directly to the south on Saturday, Sept. 19 and Sunday, Sept. 20, according to the transit agency.

Service is suspended between the two stops while Caltrain workers complete planned construction on the Guadalupe River Bridge. No replacement buses are available.
Caltrain says it runs trains across two tracks over the Guadalupe River. The northbound track is on a wooden trestle bridge that was completed 91 years ago, in 1935. The other side, carrying southbound trains, was built in 1990.

The 91-year-old bridge will be totally replaced because it has been damaged by fires and needs to be updated for seismic safety, according to Caltrain. The newer bridge only needs to be extended to protect it from erosion of the riverbank.
Those bridges are also used by Union Pacific Railroad to carry freight, as well as by Amtrak.
