Fire crews resumed a prescribed vegetation burn on Angel Island on Wednesday after a two-week pause.
The state parks department started the 260-acre preventative burn on Sept. 8 and suspended it after conferring with the Bay Area Air District.
On Wednesday, sensors detected unhealthy air for sensitive groups in parts of northeastern San Francisco and moderate air quality throughout much of the rest of the city, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s AirNow website. In Marin County, sensors reported good air quality everywhere except a moderate reading in the southern hills of Sausalito.

The air quality classifications are based on five factors: ground-level ozone, particle pollution, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide. The range of air quality categories includes good, moderate, unhealthy for sensitive groups, unhealthy, very unhealthy and hazardous.
The burn is expected to continue into Thursday. The burn is being conducted by Cal Fire and the Marin County Fire Department.
