The Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office has also filed charges of aggravated mayhem, robbery and resisting arrest against the suspect, identified as Dakauna Buckley, the El Cerrito Police Department said in an update on the case Monday.
The victim, a 59-year-old woman, was walking southbound on the Ohlone Greenway, near Wall Avenue, about 1:30 p.m. on May 27 when the suspect hit her on the back of the head and the side of the face with a “large metal wrench,” police said.
The suspect took the victim’s purse, police said, but was later found hiding in some bushes and arrested.

The victim suffered deep cranial and facial cuts and lost teeth in the attack, police said.
In August 2019, Buckley and her partner, Stephen Johnson, were charged with committing robberies in Stockton, Discovery Bay, Richmond and San Pablo. Authorities at the time said the victims included a woman who required a walker and an ice cream vendor.
