A driver was found dead in her car hours after a crash was reported on Interstate 280 near Hillsborough, the California Highway Patrol said.
Officers had gone to the scene around 2 a.m. Sunday but could not find any wreckage. After more calls were received, the CHP returned around 7:30 a.m. and found the car, a Volkswagen Tiguan, in a ditch in the median south of the Black Mountain Road exit.
The driver, the only occupant, was dead. She was identified as a woman in her 30s.

On that stretch of Interstate 280, the grassy median is about 50 yards wide. It is thought that the car veered off the southbound lanes and hit a boulder, the CHP said.
