HAYWARD – A driver hit and killed a pedestrian Thursday morning in Hayward, police said.
The incident happened just before 11 a.m. near the intersection of Kelly Street and Bayview Avenue, according to the Hayward Police Department.
Medical personnel rushed the pedestrian, a 73-year-old woman, to an area hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, police said. The Alameda County Coroner’s Office will release her identity after it is confirmed and her next of kin is notified.
The driver, a 48-year-old man, stayed at the scene and provided a statement, according to police.

The incident remains under investigation, but police do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role.
The traffic fatality is the city’s fifth of the year.
