EAST PALO ALTO — Authorities on Tuesday announced criminal charges in a fatal assault last week in East Palo Alto.

Angel Lopez Ibarra Jr., 53, of East Palo Alto, is charged with involuntary manslaughter, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury and causing great bodily injury, all felonies, East Palo Alto police Chief Jeff Liu said in a news release.
Ibarra is being held without bail at Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City, according to jail records. He is scheduled to appear in court at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Liu also identified the man who died as Andres Alberto Henriquez Gomez, 52, of Menlo Park.

On Sept. 3, officers found the victim suffering from significant facial injuries in the 2300 block of University Avenue. He told officers he had been assaulted and identified the person who attacked him.
Medical personnel took the victim to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Officers, meanwhile, arrested the suspect and booked him into county jail.
The incident is still under investigation.
