OAKLAND — Pest control company Terminix will pay $3.15 million to settle claims that it unlawfully disposed of pesticides and hazardous materials, as well as mishandled customer records, prosecutors said.

Alameda County District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson, along with 28 other California district attorneys and the city attorney of Los Angeles, announced the settlement Friday.
A three-year investigation found Terminix illegally disposed of pesticides and hazardous waste at its facilities around the state, according to prosecutors. In some cases, the company improperly managed and disposed of its customers’ private records.
Terminix was “cooperative and responsive” after being notified about the violations, prosecutors said, adding that the company has agreed to beef up its policies and procedures.

Alameda County will receive about $160,000 from the settlement, according to prosecutors.
Prosecutors said Terminix operates five locations in Alameda County under the names Western Exterminator Co. and Terminix in Hayward, Pleasanton and Union City.
