HAYWARD — A 62-year-old bicyclist died early Monday after being hit by a car near an intersection, police said.

Authorities did not identify the man immediately on Tuesday, pending the notification of relatives.
The driver, a 52-year-old Hayward resident, stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Police did not make an arrest. The fatal collision was the fourth in Hayward this year.

In a statement, police said the crash happened about 12:10 a.m. near the intersection of Harder and Soto roads. When officers arrived, the bicyclist was down. Medical personnel also responded, and an ambulance rushed the bicyclist to a hospital. He died there.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are hoping to hear from anyone who may have seen the crash and asked anyone with information to contact them at 510-293-7066.
