SANTA CLARA — At least one person was killed in a fiery crash Wednesday in Santa Clara, police said.

The traffic collision happened around noon on northbound Montague Expressway at the Lafayette Street overpass, according to an emergency dispatch recording archived online. Firefighters arrived at the scene to find a vehicle engulfed in flames.
In a social media post around 1:10 p.m., the Santa Clara Police Department said northbound Montague Expressway at Mission College Boulevard was closed “due to a fatal traffic collision.”

Additional details about the crash were not immediately available.
“This is still an active investigation and more details will be provided when available,” Santa Clara police Lt. Eric Lagergren said in an email to this news organization.
