SAN JOSE — An officer was taken to an area hospital after being shot Tuesday in San Jose, police said.

The shooting stemmed from an incident that started around 12:30 p.m. near Lick Avenue and Goodyear Street, the San Jose Police Department said in a social media post.
“An SJPD officer has been shot and transported to a local hospital,” the post stated.
Additional details about the shooting, including the officer’s condition, were not immediately available.
“This is an active and ongoing investigation,” the post stated.
Firefighters arrived at the scene to find “one patient in full arrest,” a term sometimes used for someone experiencing cardiac arrest, according to an emergency dispatch recording archived online. They also confirmed the officer was taken to a hospital.

“The officer that has been injured has been transported,” a firefighter said in the recording.
A heavy police presence was reported nearby at Almaden Avenue and Floyd Street, according to NBC Bay Area. A resident told the news station that they saw San Jose police officers and Santa Clara County sheriff’s deputies with guns drawn.
According to the news station, witnesses also reported seeing a person down on the ground and expressed concern that a second person might be barricaded in the area.
