Steam rises as a worker uses a road roller on southbound Highway 17 north of Summit Road. The work is part of Caltrans’ State Route 17 Road Rehabilitation and Enhancement Project. Caltrans has begun a pavement preservation project on Highway 17 from Hebard Way in Santa Clara County to the Santa Cruz County Line.
The project is designed to “preserve and extend the lifespan of the existing pavement, address failed pavement locations, and enhance ride quality for motorists in both directions.” Similar work occurred in June and July on several miles of Highway 17 in Santa Cruz County.
