ANTIOCH – Seven students were exposed to pepper spray during a confrontation Friday afternoon at Antioch High School, police said.

Reported shortly after 1:45 p.m., the incident happened in a campus hallway as students were changing classes, the Antioch Police Department said in a news release.
An initial investigation determined the incident stemmed from an ongoing dispute between two students, police said.
“During the altercation, pepper spray was deployed, inadvertently affecting several nearby students,” police said.

Emergency medical personnel evaluated the affected students and took three of them to an area hospital for further evaluation and treatment, police said. No serious injuries were reported.
Police said the student they believe was responsible for the incident was cited for possession/use of tear gas by a minor and battery. She was released to her parents.
