Stanford officially named Michigan transfer Davis Warren as its starting quarterback on Tuesday for the Aug. 29 season opener at home against Hawaii.

Warren, who played in 17 games over five years for the Wolverines, was assumed to be coach Tavita Pritchard’s choice at the position when he transferred to The Farm months ago. Pritchard has often praised Warren’s competitiveness, accuracy and leadership, the three most important traits for a quarterback, according to the first-year coach.
“He’s shown his leadership from the day he got here,” Pritchard said. “He’s fit not just into our locker room, but in a locker room that’s pretty tight-knit, he has immediately become a member of that locker room that is respected and one that I know our guys look to.”

When Warren takes his first snap against Hawaii, it will mark just his 10th start during his six-year career, and first since 2024. In nine starts that season, Warren completed 64.1 percent of his passes for 1,199 yards, seven touchdowns and nine interceptions.
Freshman quarterback Michael Mitchell from Archbishop Riordan High in San Francisco was among the five players competing for Stanford’s starting role. Other quarterbacks in the running include senior Dylan Rizk, fifth-year senior Charlie Mirer and freshman Devin Mignery of Cardinal Mooney High in Sarasota, Fla.
