OAKLAND – A man walking in the street died after he was hit by a car Saturday night in North Oakland, authorities said. The name of the 69-year-old Oakland resident has not been released pending notice of his family.

The fatal collision happened about 8:29 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of West MacArthur Boulevard and Webster Street. According to initial police reports, a vehicle was driving eastbound on West MacArthur Boulevard when it struck the man who was in the roadway. The man was taken to a hospital where he later died.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene, called for help and is cooperating with the investigation.
Police said they do not believe that alcohol or drugs played a factor.
