SAN JOSE — A pedestrian who was seriously injured after a driver hit her in the Willow Glen area last month died over the weekend, police said.

The collision was reported July 18 around 10:25 p.m. when, according to San Jose police, a man driving a silver 2016 Toyota Camry north on Leigh Avenue hit a woman crossing the roadway near Patio Drive, a few blocks south of Hamilton Avenue.
Police said the woman was taken to a hospital with major injuries and that her condition initially stabilized. She died from her injuries Sunday, according to police and the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office. Her name has not been publicly released pending her formal identification and notification of her next of kin.
The Camry driver stopped at the collision site. There is no indication he was arrested or cited, or that he or his two adult passengers were injured.

In a Wednesday news release, police noted that the victim was not in a marked crosswalk when the collision occurred. State law allows crossings outside marked crosswalks or intersections if they can be completed safely and don’t create a traffic hazard.
The fatal collision marked the city’s 13th pedestrian death and the 27th overall traffic death of the year. At the same point in 2025, San Jose had recorded nine pedestrian deaths and 19 overall traffic deaths, according to data compiled by this news organization.
