SANTA CLARA — Intel and Uber Technologies both revealed plans to cut jobs in the Bay Area, affecting dozens of workers in a region that experienced a loss of 2,000 tech positions in June.

Intel will eliminate 103 jobs in Santa Clara on Aug. 15, according to a WARN notice sent to the state Employment Development Department.
Uber will cut 41 jobs in San Francisco on Sept. 21, the company told the EDD.
The cuts at both companies are expected to be permanent. None of the workers are represented by a union and none have the right to displace another worker, even if the affected employee has seniority.

Julie Viray, Uber vice president of human resources, said in the WARN letter nine of the Uber employees affected by the layoffs may be “offered opportunities to continue employment with the company through relocation.”
