One person was killed and seven injured in a shooting at a party attended by hundreds on Saturday night outside of Morgan Hill.

Around 10:16 p.m. on Saturday, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputies responded to calls of intoxicated people and a person throwing bottles at cars on Hale Avenue near Miramonte Avenue. The intersection is largely surrounded by fields and is near a mushroom farm.
According to the police statement, over 300 were fleeing from a party after several gunshots were fired and multiple people were shot. Emergency responders gave multiple people emergency aid before several were taken to local hospitals. One person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The shooting was carried out with a handgun, according to the preliminary investigation.

The Morgan Hill Police Department, Gilroy Police Department, California Highway Patrol and San Jose Police Department also responded to the scene.
The “unsanctioned” party had been promoted via social media, according to officials. Investigators have not identified a suspect and expect a “lengthy and complex homicide investigation,” according to a statement from the Sheriff’s office.
