SAN LEANDRO — A big rig jackknifed and overturned on an East Bay freeway early Friday, causing a traffic backup of nearly two miles, the Calfornia Highway Patrol said.

The wreck happened about 3:20 a.m. on northbound Interstate 238, just south of the Interstate 880 onramp. I-238 is a connector freeway that allows commuters on I-680 to get onto I-880.
The CHP said initial reports indicated at least one person suffered injuries that were termed minor.

The wreck blocked all but the far left lane on the four-lane freeway and spilled about 10 gallons of oil on the freeway. Hazardous materials teams also were at the scene.

The CHP estimated that northbound I-238 would remain closed until 10 a.m.
