A person found dead in the trunk of a Tesla on the Pacheco Pass roadside has been identified as a missing man from Hollister.

The body was discovered Thursday afternoon by California Highway Patrol officers and Merced County sheriff’s deputies after a call to the CHP concerning a missing person. The caller gave a location off Highway 152 near San Luis Reservoir, where the officers found the abandoned car in a pullout.

The man was identified Tuesday as Javier Becerril Jr., 42. The case is being investigated as a homicide, the CHP said. The agency did not say when Becerril was last seen alive.
