SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants have had their share of controversies during their disappointing first half. Now they can now include ace Logan Webb jousting with a media member and fans via social media to the list.

It started after Wednesday’s 10-0 loss, when Webb, who started the series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays, responded to a post on the social media platform X from KNBR reporter Jack Loder, who had posted a video critical of the Giants’ performance and lack of team leadership.
Webb gave up five runs in the first inning of the loss, the only runs he allowed in seven innings.
Loder said, in part, that “When someone is supposed to be your ace, you think that they’re going to give you the best chance to win every week. Logan Webb had an awesome June, he was bad in April, he missed most of May. I’ve said over the years that he’s been a great Giant, like I’ve really appreciated his Giants tenure. But there’s always been a little bit lacking.” He also suggested a lack of leadership from the team’s veterans and highest-paid players.
During another point in the video, Loder said Webb “might be searching his name on Twitter after the game — who knows — which is never a great look.”
Then hours after the game, Webb replied to Loder’s post, writing, “You know what’s sad is they allow people like you in the locker room.”
As of Thursday afternoon, Webb’s X account appears to be offline at its previous username. SFGATE reported that Webb took down his account Wednesday night.
His Instagram account is still active.
Webb’s post was aggregated elsewhere, creating a new distraction for a team that went 16 games under .500 for the first time this season and is just one game above its opponents on Thursday night, the Colorado Rockies, for the worst record in the National League.
In a separate post on X, Webb replied to a fan who had criticized him, writing, “Honestly you probably don’t know anything about anything some loser on the couch that couldn’t make his little league team.”

He also responded to KNBR host Adam Copeland and multiple other fans, according to one online report.
Webb did not speak to reporters before Thursday’s game. Manager Tony Vitello addressed the posts on KNBR Thursday morning and again while meeting with the media before Thursday’s game.
“Honestly, I don’t know anything about it,” Vitello said on the air Thursday morning. “And kind of like some of that other stuff earlier on, I’m not educated enough to speak intelligently on some of those things, which I think is a good thing. Maybe he came from a place where he felt like he was defending the team or himself.
“I’ve just always been a big believer in that the only opinions that should matter are the people wearing the uniform.”
Vitello was more aware of the controversy when he spoke with reporters and fleshed out his thoughts despite noting he’d rather move on.
“It’s not my world,” Vitello said in response to a question from the Bay Area News Group. “I’m thankful that it’s not my world, so let’s kind of focus more on trying to do our part as a coaching staff to help our guys play consistently well a couple days in a row.
“And then inevitably you’re not going to play your best every day. What does it look like when we don’t play well? So whether it shows or not on the field, which I think it has at times as of late, that’s kind of what we’re working towards.”
