SANTA CRUZ — The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office recovered the body of a 16-year-old boy from the water near the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf Monday morning.

Around 8:30 a.m. Monday, the sheriff’s office responded to calls reporting a body in the water around the wharf, according to Ashley Keehn, communications officer with the sheriff’s office. With help from Harbor Patrol, the body was pulled out of the water and brought to shore.
The office is investigating the death, though no foul play is currently suspected, Keehn said.

The body was identified as a male 16-year-old from Capitola, Keehn said, and the cause of his death will be determined once an autopsy is complete.
