One person died and another was hospitalized in a shooting Friday morning in Bay Point, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, and authorities are searching for a suspect in the slaying.

Sheriff’s deputies found “several individuals” injured, including an unresponsive male victim, after arriving some time after 1:30 a.m. Friday on Olivia Lane in Bay Point, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. The two victims were transported to a local hospital, where the unresponsive victim later died, authorities said. Authorities are investigating the shooting as a homicide, the sheriff’s office said.
The sheriff’s office reportedly identified 35-year-old Avery Alexander Gibbs, who is a transient man, as the suspected shooter, according to the release.
“Gibbs should not be approached and anyone seeing him should call 9-1-1,” the news release said.

Authorities did not release details of the surviving victim’s condition. Authorities have not yet released the deceased victim’s name, pending notification of his death to his next of kin, according to the release.
