Major delays hit BART riders early Thursday after an equipment problem on the track near the Bay Fair station, officials for the transit system said.

It was not clear what the nature of the equipment issue was, and BART did not have details on the problem.
BART spokesperson Michelle Robertson said BART closed its Green Line service between the Daly City and Berryessa stations. Trains also stopped between the San Leandro and South Hayward stations and the San Leandro and Castro Valley stations, she said.

Service between the stations resumed about 6:10 a.m., and Robertson said that trains were stopping at all 50 stations. Major delays were expected to continue throughout Thursday morning in all directions on Berryessa and Dublin/Pleasanton lines.
The delay initially began about 5:35 a.m. AC Transit provided buses for riders between the South Hayward and San Leandro and between Castro Valley and Bay Fair during the delay.
