OAKLAND — A man was fatally shot while driving Wednesday afternoon near Oakland’s Uptown District, police said.

The shooting happened around 3 p.m. in the 550 block of 17th Street, just west of San Pablo Avenue.
According to initial police reports, the man was shot at least once by someone standing outside his black BMW sedan.
Despite being wounded, the man was able to drive a short distance to a parking lot at 17th Street and San Pablo Avenue. He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to an area hospital, where he later died.

The death marked then city’s 26th homicide of the year.
A motive for the shooting is under investigation. No suspect information has been released.
