A motorcyclist died in a highway crash Friday after running into the back of another car, the California Highway Patrol said.

Authorities did not identify the motorcyclist Monday morning, citing the investigation. The wreck happened on southbound state Highway 242 about 10 a.m. just north of the Grant Street exit.
In a statement, CHP spokesperson Officer Dan Gilmore said investigators have not determined why the motorcycle crashed into the rear of a red Subaru sedan. The motorcyclist flew off the bike after the crash and died at the scene.

The driver of the Subaru was not injured. Nobody else was in that car.
The CHP closed the two right lanes of Highway 242 for about two hours to investigate. They continue to look for witnesses to determine why the motorcyclist have hit the Subaru and asked anyone who may have information on the events leading up to it contact their Contra Costa County division at [email protected] or at 925-387-1900.
