OAKLAND — A 34-year-old man was shot early Saturday in the Uptown district, authorities said.

The man, an Oakland resident, was in stable condition at a hospital where he was being treated for a leg wound, officials said.
The shooting happened at about 12:52 a.m. Saturday in the 1700 block of Broadway, which is known for its clubs and nightlife activity.
According to initial police reports, the man got into a dispute with another man and was shot. What caused the argument has not yet been released.

The suspect fled before nearby officers got to the scene. Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 510-238-3426.
There have been other shootings, including homicides, in the Uptown Oakland district over the years.
In February, a 34-year-old Vallejo man was shot several times during a fight in the Uptown district, while a separate, 18-year-old Vallejo man was shot in an early morning altercation in April.
