SAN JOSE – A 38-year-old San Jose man is facing a murder charge in connection with a police pursuit and crash that left his passenger dead last weekend, police said.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office has also charged Justin Buban with several other crimes, including reckless driving, evading a police officer and driving under the influence.
The crash happened around 12:15 a.m. Sunday at Naglee and Park avenues in San Jose. Police said Buban ran a red light in his Buick and crashed into another car before hitting a traffic pole.
Santa Clara officers were pursuing the Buick at the time. Police said the vehicle had initially been spotted speeding and driving recklessly on Stevens Creek Boulevard in neighboring Santa Clara.
A woman who was riding in the Buick was pronounced dead at the collision scene.
Both occupants of the second car suffered minor injuries and were treated at area hospitals.

Buban was wanted on a warrant prior to the chase and crash, police said. The charges included felon in possession of a firearm, petty theft, driving or taking a vehicle without consent, false impersonation, evading a police officer and failure to appear in court.
