A 16-year-old boy accused of being under the influence and stabbing his mother’s boyfriend in a Santa Ana apartment was shot and killed by at least one Santa Ana police officer while still armed with the knife after police arrived Sunday night, June 14, authorities said.

The shooting occurred about 10:30 p.m. in the 3400 block of South Main Street after officers received a call about a family disturbance inside an apartment, Santa Ana police spokeswoman Officer Natalie Garcia said.
The caller, a 53-year-old man, told police that his girlfriend’s son was under the influence, vandalizing the apartment and had stabbed him at least once, Garcia said.
Officers arrived and heard arguing inside the apartment, Garcia said.
They went inside and found the boy still armed and gave him multiple commands to put the weapon down, but he refused, leading to the shooting, police said.

The boy died at the scene, Garcia said.
The man was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries and the boy’s mother also sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated at the scene.
A knife and other weapons were found inside the apartment, Garcia said. The other types of weapons were not immediately disclosed.
