BERKELEY — A man has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a child attending a summer camp being held on the UC Berkeley campus, authorities said.

The suspect, Quaylin Wesley, 27, of Vallejo, who was arrested Saturday hours after the alleged assault, was a camp staffer, authorities said.
He was arrested on suspicion of sodomizing a person under 18, lewd and lascivious conduct with a child under 14 and first degree burglary. He was being held in lieu of $425,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday.
According to authorities, the alleged assault was was initially reported to university police as an attempted sexual assault in a residence hall that occurred between 1 and 2 a.m. Saturday. Through subsequent investigation, police determined that the incident was a completed sexual assault, rather than an attempted one, authorities said.
Wesley was eventually identified as the suspect and placed under arrest about 2:20 p.m. Saturday. No other details about the alleged assault were released.

Officials did not specify the name of the camp program or the residence hall where the alleged assault took place. UC officials did say it was not a university-operated camp.
Officials also said Wesley is not affiliated with the university, but did graduate from Cal in 2021 with a Bachelor’s Degree in social welfare.
