SAN MATEO — A brawl in the backyard of a San Mateo home ended in the arrest of two people Thursday night, police said.

Officers went to the home in the 400 block of East Bellevue Avenue around 9:55 p.m. for a report of a fight involving multiple people, according to the San Mateo Police Department.
An investigation revealed a 27-year-old man had hit another man numerous times in the head with an aluminum pole, police said, adding that the victim suffered significant injuries.
The victim was evaluated at the scene and taken to an area hospital for additional treatment.

Police said the 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. In addition, an 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of battery.
Both men were booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City and remained in custody Friday. The 27-year-old is being held on $25,000 bail and the 18-year-old on $5,000 bail.
