De La Salle tabs Lou Cesario as new baseball coach

De La Salle has found its new baseball coach.

The school announced on Monday that it has hired Northgate coach and Spartans grad Lou Cesario. The news comes five days after longtime De La Salle coach David Jeans announced he is retiring.

“Coach Cesario is an exceptional leader whose experience, character, and commitment to student-athletes make him the ideal person to lead our baseball program,” De La Salle Athletic director Leo Lopoz said in a release. “As a proud De La Salle alumnus, he embodies the Lasallian mission and brings a deep commitment to faith, service, and the development of young men. His baseball coaching record speaks for itself, with decades of success, championship-caliber leadership, and a reputation for building programs that reflect excellence both on and off the field. We are thrilled to welcome him home to lead Spartan Baseball.”

Cesario led Northgate to a North Coast Section Division II title this spring. He took over the Walnut Creek baseball program in 2025 and lifted Northgate from the bottom of the Diablo Athletic League to back-to-back postseason appearances.

A 1982 graduate of De La Salle, Cesario has a coaching career that spans over 30 years. He has accumulated over 500 victories and was named CIF and NCS coach of the year in 2011 at Amador Valley.

“I am honored to return to De La Salle and lead a program with such a rich tradition of excellence,” Cesario said in the release. “De La Salle played a significant role in shaping who I am today, and I look forward to working with our student-athletes, coaches, alumni, and families as we continue to build upon the proud legacy of Spartan Baseball.”

Cesario will take over for Jeans, who built a dynasty at De La Salle in his 25-year career. The Spartans won 16 NCS titles and three NorCal region titles during Jeans’ tenure.
