A man died after falling from a cliff in Santa Cruz County early Saturday, officials said.

Cal Fire’s San Mateo-Santa Cruz unit said the man, who was in his early 20s, fell off a cliff at Bonny Doon Beach around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
Officials said the man fell halfway down the cliff and landed mid-cliff. Firefighters used a rope rescue system to recover him, but the man did not survive, the department said on social media.

Officials said responding agencies included Cal Fire, Santa Cruz Fire, California State Parks, the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, Santa Cruz police and the U.S. Coast Guard.
The deceased man has not been identified, and more information was not provided about the circumstances of his fall.
