OAKLAND — Prosecutors have filed murder and gun charges against a man accused of killing an Oakley resident here last December, court records show.

Maurice Davis, 27, is being held without bail on charges of murder and gun possession by a felon. He is set to enter a plea at his next court date, scheduled for July 14, records.
Prosecutors alleged Davis shot and killed George Ndikum Ngwanyia Jr. around 11:50 p.m. on Dec. 12, 2025, at E.C. Reems Court in Oakland. Police haven’t released the suspected motive but Ngwanyia’s Instagram page — taken over by a family member after his death — suggests he was killed by “people he called friends.”

Davis was arrested in mid-March and postponed his arraignment several times since then, court records show. The charging records say he has a 2024 robbery conviction that makes it illegal for him to possess firearms.
