CHICAGO — The Giants added length to their bullpen ahead of their three-game series against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, recalling right-hander Carson Seymour from Triple-A Sacramento.

“I think just by nature of how the games went in Colorado and (Milwaukee) and how a couple guys threw, pitch count accumulated even more than innings,” said manager Tony Vitello. “So, having some length, I think it could be huge.”
Rookie right-hander Wilkin Ramos was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move.
Ramos, 25, earned his first career call-up to the majors earlier this week and made two appearances for the Giants during their four-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers. In Thursday’s 12-9 win, Ramos failed to retire any of the four batters he faced in the bottom of the ninth.

Additionally, catcher Logan Porter, who was designated for assignment earlier this week, cleared waivers and was outrighted to Sacramento.
Seymour, 27, made 11 appearances (nine starts) for Sacramento, posting a 4.04 ERA and 4.60 FIP over 49 innings while totaling 42 strikeouts to 17 walks. The right-hander made his major league debut with the Giants last season, posting a 4.75 ERA and 6.11 FIP over 36 innings.
“He was starting to really throw the ball well,” Vitello said. “The one thing about (the Pacific Coast League) is that you can’t just look at numbers. Relying on those guys with (manager Dave Brundage) and everybody’s been huge for us. They really feel like he’s gathered up more and more confidence. For me, that’s all it’s about with him because he throws bowling balls up there. It’s a tough look. He’s got the stuff to do it, and I think he’s got the mentality, too.”

Worth noting
- Right-hander Tyler Mahle (left hamstring strain) is scheduled to throw a bullpen in Chicago. Mahle, who has a 6.04 ERA over 11 starts, is eligible to return from the 15-day injured list on June 11. When Mahle returns, the Giants will have to determine whether they reinstall him into the rotation or place him in the bullpen.
