The Marin County Sheriff’s Office identified them as Kevin Mannix, 68, Ann Elizabeth Corriea Mannix, 65, and Katherine Elizabeth Mannix, 24. Ann Mannix is a retired deputy chief for the San Francisco Police Department.
A caller notified authorities about the shooting at a home on Strawberry Circle at about 5 p.m. Sunday. Deputies contacted the caller there and entered the home, sheriff’s spokesperson Miguel Almaguer said.
The sheriff’s office did not disclose the caller’s relation to the Mannixes but said the caller lived at the residence. The caller was not injured, Almaguer said.
“The preliminary investigation indicates a suspected double-murder suicide involving three individuals,” the sheriff’s office said.
Ann Mannix worked at the San Francisco Police Department for 27 years and she led a team that includes SWAT officers and the bomb squad. She was also involved with the San Francisco Police Activities League, which she learned about when she was growing up in the city’s Jordan Park neighborhood.
“I value the ability to be involved and shape a young person’s life, to be a positive role model in their formative years,” Mannix said in her league profile.
Kevin Mannix retired in 2018, according to his announcement in the police newsletter Taraval Station.
“I am looking forward to a new life of leisure and with family and friends,” he wrote. “But I am a little saddened by the thought of not seeing all of you every day or at community events.”
Katherine Mannix, known as Katie, was a student at the College of Marin.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Katie Mannix,” said Nicole Cruz, communications director at the school. “Katie was part of the College of Marin community, and our thoughts are with everyone who knew and cared about her. We are focused on supporting our students, faculty and staff as they process this tragic loss.”

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office and its coroner’s division are investigating the deaths. Autopsies are scheduled for Tuesday.
Louis Wong, president of the San Francisco Police Officers Association, said the deaths have “has left our entire SFPD family reeling.”
“There are no words that can fully capture the depth of this tragedy, nor are there simple answers to the painful questions we are all asking,” Wong wrote in a statement online. “Ann Mannix was a trailblazer in our department — becoming the first woman to join and lead the SWAT team, and rising to lead both the Field Operations and Special Operations Bureaus. Many worked alongside Kevin during his 27 years of dedicated service at Taraval Station and beyond.”
“To see their lives, and the life of their 24-year-old daughter Katie, end in such a horrific and senseless manner is a burden that weighs heavily on every officer, active and retired,” Wong wrote.
San Francisco police Chief Derrick Lew also released a statement.
“It is with profound grief and unimaginable sadness that we learned yesterday of the deaths of retired members Ann Mannix and Kevin Mannix as well as their 24-year-old daughter,” Lew said. “The Marin County Sheriff’s Office has described this incident as a murder suicide, which makes the situation all the more difficult to process. My heart goes out to all their family members, friends and colleagues at the SFPD as we all work to process this tragedy.”
Tiburon resident Karla Cervantes visited the front gate of the home Monday morning to offer a “little prayer.”
Cervantes said she was at a Mill Valley Film Festival screening in San Rafael when she heard about the shooting. Her daughter and her friends were visiting the Strawberry Village Shopping Center at the time.
“We didn’t know if it was an isolated event or any danger to the public at all, but it kind of freaked us out a little bit,” Cervantes said. “This is obviously very unusual for this area. It’s devastating and sad and so horrible for all their loved ones.”
She was particularly concerned that the incident involved former law enforcement officers.
