Around 8:20 a.m., East Palo Alto police were called to the intersection of Bay Road and University Avenue for reports of a multi-vehicle collision, according to a news release from the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office assumed jurisdictional authority of the collision because it involved a SamTrans vehicle.
In their investigation, the sheriff’s office found that a minivan driven by an adult male collided with six vehicles, authorities said. One of those vehicles was a SamTrans Ride Plus van.
After striking the six vehicles, the minivan then stopped on Bay Road, authorities added.
The minivan’s driver died at the scene due to his injuries. An adult female passenger with life-threatening injuries was taken to a hospital, where she died. Their names will be released by the San Mateo County Medical Examiner’s Office after identification and notification of next of kin.
