Unmissable from Highway 101 in Mountain View, the hangar was built for the USS Macon airship in the 1930s. In recent years, the structure sat without its outer skin, which had to be removed because it contained toxic materials. In a collaboration with Planetary Ventures (Google), NASA, the Environmental Protection Agency and the US Navy, the hangar was reconstructed over many years of meticulous planning and execution and reopened in the spring of 2026.
Presenter Anthony LaMarca was one of the collaborators on the project. A native of San Jose, LaMarca graduated from San Jose State University with a degree in civil engineering in 2004. In his career LaMarca contributed to major infrastructure projects including Levi’s Stadium, Valley Medical Center and Highway 85.
