Michael J. Fox\u2019s battle with Parkinson\u2019s disease has \u201cgotten harder,\u201d but he remains optimistic that a cure is coming.<\/p>\n

The 65-year-old television star was 29 years old when he was diagnosed with the the incurable neurological disorder in 1991. He went public with his condition in 1998 and retired from acting for for the first time in 2000 when he started the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson\u2019s Research.<\/p>\n

Following a second retirement due to his deteriorating health in 2020, Fox is very much back on the scene. The Canadian star was nominated for a 2026 Emmy Award for his work on Apple TV\u2019s \u201cShrinking.\u201d But life isn\u2019t getting easier as he continues his fight.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course, things have gotten harder over the years,\u201d he admitted to People in an interview published Wednesday. \u201cI\u2019m privileged to commit my time and energy to bringing everything I\u2019ve got to help cure this disease.\u201d<\/p>\n

He was honored with the Lasker-Bloomberg Public Service Award for Transformative Leadership in Parkinson\u2019s Research on Wednesday in recognition for his foundation\u2019s work. Fox\u2019s team has raised $3 billion in search of a cure, which the \u201cBack to the Future\u201d star believes is on the way.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t know exactly when it\u2019ll happen, but it will happen,\u201d Fox told People.<\/p>\n

The five-time Emmy winner was one of the biggest stars on primetime while playing Alex P. Keaton in the NBC sitcom \u201cFamily Ties\u201d from 1982 to 1989. He also enjoyed great success with the show\u2019s \u201cSpin City\u201d and \u201cThe Good Wife.\u201d<\/p>\n

His biggest role on the movie screen was arguably Marty McFly in the \u201cBack to the Future\u201d trilogy. He also starred in the teen comedy \u201cTeen Wolf\u201d and the debauched New York-centric film \u201cBright Lights, Big City.\u201d<\/p>\n
