ABC is setting the record straight amid rumors that it has plans to cancel \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d at the end of its current season.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis information is inaccurate \u2014 any reports about the future of the show at this point are purely speculative,\u201d an ABC Entertainment spokesperson told Us Weekly.<\/p>\n

The network\u2019s clarification comes after multiple media outlets reported Kimmel\u2019s late night show would wrap after its 24th season, which premiered on ABC Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

Sources told TMZ that Kimmel, who has a year-to-year deal with ABC, has been shopping other projects as of late, including a podcast in addition to other shows. The news also follows a recent interview with Kimmel\u2019s wife, Molly McNearney, who opened up about his eventual retirement during an episode of Dax Shepard\u2019s \u201cArmchair Expert.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt definitely appeals to me for the nervous system of the household,\u201d McNearney said when asked about her thoughts on the matter.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like Jimmy has a fly rod in one hand and a torch in the other right now,\u201d she continued. \u201cI\u2019\u2019s like he deserves to go out there and just be on the river and relax, but I also want him to keep fighting. And I feel this sense of desire to not quit because I think what he\u2019s doing is incredibly important right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d debuted all the way back in January 2003 and has aired approximately 4,000 original episodes in the decades since. Almost one year ago, Kimmel\u2019s show was abruptly pulled from the air, with executives saying it would be \u201cpreempted indefinitely\u201d over the host\u2019s remarks about the discourse triggered by the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.<\/p>\n

Kirk, a right-wing political activist, was shot on Sept. 10 during a student Q&A at Utah Valley University as part of his American Comeback Tour. He was hit in the neck by a lone bullet during the outdoor event on the Orem, Utah, campus and was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.<\/p>\n

Following the tragedy, Kimmel delivered a monologue critical of President Trump and his MAGA movement for moving to blame Kirk\u2019s death on the so-called \u201cradical left.\u201d<\/p>\n

When his show returned about a week later, Kimmel expressed some regret for his remarks, at one point becoming emotional as he declared, \u201cIt was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man.\u201d<\/p>\n
