RICHMOND \u2014 A one-car crash that ended with a truck in the water killed a person early Saturday, police said.<\/p>\n

Officers were called to the 1300 block of Canal Boulevard about 11:17 a.m. on Saturday morning for reports that there might be a person dead in the water. Police opened the case as a suspicious death after officers found a body.<\/p>\n

Authorities did not publicly identify the person Wednesday, pending confirmation of their name and notification of their next of kin.<\/p>\n

In a statement early Wednesday, police said they used the department\u2019s Flock Safety camera system and found video footage of what appeared to be a white truck entering the water near Canal Boulevard at about 1 a.m.<\/p>\n

That led police to request assistance from the marine units with San Francisco and Oakland police, as well as a dive team from the Alameda County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

Those three agencies all responded, and police said authorities used specialized sonar equipment and marine tools to find the submerged truck. Dive teams, including members of the volunteer California Recovery Divers group, assisted in recovering the vehicle and confirming that nobody else was in it.<\/p>\n
