Welcome to the Bay Area News Group (<\/span>Mercury News<\/span> &<\/span> East Bay Times<\/span>) girls<\/span> Athlete of the Week poll.<\/span><\/p>\n

For the entire academic year, we will provide a list of candidates who stood out over the previous week and allow you, the reader, to vote for the winner.<\/span><\/p>\n

This week, we consider performances from <\/span>Aug. 31-Sept. 5<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Polls close at 5 p.m. Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Vote as many times as you\u2019d like until then without using bots or any other artificial methods of voting.<\/span><\/p>\n

Votes by email and after 5 p.m. Wednesday are not counted.<\/span><\/p>\n

Winners are announced each Friday online and in the print edition of the Mercury News and East Bay Times sports sections.<\/span><\/p>\n

Candidates for future Athlete of the Week polls can be nominated at highschools@bayareanewsgroup.com.<\/span><\/p>\n

We accept nominations until 11 a.m. each Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n

We also review stats submitted to<\/span> MaxPreps<\/span> by coaches\/team statisticians.<\/span><\/p>\n

On to the nominees:<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Bren David, Milpitas flag football:<\/b> In a 32-7 victory over The King\u2019s Academy, David completed 22 of 30 passes for 260 yards and five touchdowns, and threw three TD passes in a 154-yard performance to beat Menlo-Atherton, 21-0.<\/span><\/p>\n

Satiarah Galueaga, Archbishop Riordan flag football:<\/b> Galueaga completed 68 of 97 passes for 740 yards in three games, with 11 touchdowns and only one interception, to lead the Crusaders to season-opening victories over El Camino, Skyline, and San Mateo.<\/span><\/p>\n

Megan Hohl, Woodside water polo:<\/b> The senior combined for 11 goals for the Wildcats, including six in a 12-11 victory over Gunn and five in a 15-11 loss to Los Gatos.<\/span><\/p>\n

Olivia Joseph, Northgate cross country:<\/b> Joseph won the Saint Mary\u2019s Invitational, covering the 2.0 mile course in 11:16.44 and led Northgate to the team victory.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Maggie Kruger, Las Lomas flag football:<\/b> Kruger rushed for 132 yards on 19 carries in a 26-14 victory over Castro Valley and gained 160 yards on 21 carries and scored three TDs in a 34-13 victory over Livermore.<\/span><\/p>\n

Eliot Marsh, St. Ignatius cross country: <\/b>Marsh won the junior race in 14:30.3 at the Baylands Invitational and had the best overall time among 344 runners.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Malia Perez, Santa Clara flag football:<\/b> Perez combined for 15 flag pulls and an interception in a 45-42 victory over Gunn and 31-0 triumph over Hillsdale.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Rubi Silva, Berkeley volleyball:<\/b> The senior setter had 25 assists in a four-set victory over San Leandro and 36 assists in a sweep of Acalanes to lead the Yellowjackets.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kennedy Whyte, Monte Vista volleyball: <\/b>The senior outside hitter had 18 kills, nine digs, three assists, and a block to lead the Mustangs to a 3-1 victory over Las Lomas.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sofie Zlobinsky, Menlo-Atherton water polo:<\/b> Zlobinsky combined for 11 goals as the Bears beat Gunn, 9-6 behind her five goals, and beat Willow Glen, 13-8, behind her six goals.<\/span><\/p>\n
