Longtime friends and chefs Ike Hwang and Jack Choi are the culinary minds behind Gangsan, a new Korean restaurant that began its soft opening this summer in downtown Redwood City.<\/p>\n

So far, the most popular dish is galbijjim, beef short ribs slow-braised in ox bone broth with seasonal vegetables ($88), they say. There\u2019s also jeongol, a communal hot pot dish with beef or seafood or other soups, available alongside suyuk, slow-simmered brisket or other meats cooked with ox bone broth.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll also find appetizers like raw beef tartare ($19), seasoned with sesame oil, garlic and alfalfa sprouts, pork and kimchi ($19) and sweet and spicy glazed veggie dumplings ($15).<\/p>\n

The restaurant team is conscious of dietary restrictions and accommodating them, according to Choi.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood service, good food. We want customers to have a good experience every time,\u201d Hwang said.<\/p>\n

The restaurant\u2019s name, gangsan, means \u201crivers and mountains,\u201d according to its website, and is meant to evoke a spirit or feeling of being held by nature.<\/p>\n
