The Timber Fire is at 21% containment while the Plaskett Fire is at 1%. But officials are warning residents near the Plaskett Fire to expect evacuation orders soon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED:\u00a0Map: Plaskett Fire now bigger than Timber; evacuation zone abuts San Luis Obispo County<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cStart preparing now,\u201d said District 5 Monterey County Supervisor Kate Daniels in a Saturday briefing, \u201cExpect that sometime this week you will get an evacuation order.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Plaskett Fire has doubled overnight according to a morning update by Cal Fire, having grown significantly faster than the Timber Fire in its early stages. Cal Fire attributes this to steady winds in the area and thick unburned vegetation in an area with no fire history for 50 years. Cal Fire said firefighters are working to stay ahead of the fire front and conduct firing operations near San Miguel Creek. Dozer line has been put in place to the north and aerial operations have continued through the night.<\/p>\n<p>The Timber Fire remains active with moderate growth. Cal Fire says crews worked overnight on containment lines and that the current priority is to contain the fire more permanently around Juan Miguel Creek and to continue the process of connecting dozer line around the fire. The meeting answered questions from the community about evacuation procedures in both Spanish and English, as well as giving an overview of the current firefighting procedure and expected spread.<\/p>\n<p>Officials emphasized the role of a low-pressure zone now entering the Central Coast. Two weeks ago, a high-pressure front squashed the marine layer and caused a drying effect, intensifying fire. Now a low-pressure zone is expected to provide cooling but not the moisture provided during its early burn.<\/p>\n<p>According to Cal Trans, Highway 1 is closed from 11.7 miles north of Ragged Point to 9.5 miles north of Big Sur, with no expected time of reopening.
